AEOLIAN HARP (TO TWO YOUNG MUSICIANS), by PHOEBE SMITH First Line: Taut strings that ever stir Last Line: In a never-ending strain. Subject(s): Harps; Musical Instruments; Lyres | ||||||||
Taut strings that ever stir, And gently pulsing, vibrate to the rhythm Of pine-pungent breaths from old forgotten mountains, High winds blowing from the open door of Eternity; Paeans shouted for the dawn of light, Cadence of a cradle song At some dim nativity; Wild overtones of medial symphonies, Distant harmonies of some eventual conception; Psalms the generations chant In Time's processional. Taut strings that ever stir, And gently pulsing, Vibrate to Earth's harmonies In a never-ending strain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GHOSTS LISTEN TO ORPHEUS SING by GREGORY ORR TO AN AEOLIAN HARP by SARA TEASDALE THE AEOLIAN HARP by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE THE MASTER-PLAYER by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR THE HARP by RALPH WALDO EMERSON THE AEOLIAN HARP; AT THE SURF INN by HERMAN MELVILLE THAT HARP YOU PLAY SO WELL by MARIANNE MOORE RUMORS FROM AN AEOLIAN HARP by HENRY DAVID THOREAU AEOLIAN HARP (1) by WILLIAM ALLINGHAM |
