PROMISE, by ELLEN HUNTER TERRY First Line: A ruby-throated humming bird came to sip Last Line: My sweet petunias flutter to his kiss! Subject(s): Hummingbirds | ||||||||
A ruby-throated humming bird came to sip The honeyed sweetness from the velvet tip of my petunias. How he would hover like an ardent Lover and dip from pearly white to coral -- then to blue! He tried the honey from the flower of every one -- But just one sip! Flash! He is gone! But ah, I know when summer comes again -- Flash! A wing of gossamer! -- My sweet petunias flutter to his kiss! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...11:02 A.M.
