THE SUNSET HILL, by MARY POLLARD TYNES First Line: Life said to me, 'your days have run Last Line: Were wet with tears. Now I am wise! | |||
Life said to me, "Your days have run Joyful and golden in the sun. Your heart care-free of toil and fears, Your eyes immune to tears. But now when testing time has come, Let not your sorrow smite you dumb." I said to life, "Days have been dear, And filled with laughter many a year, But now, if grief my portion is, I shall go bravely on and this Shall comfort me; for I Have walked with love; love cannot die." Life said, "The draught is in the cup," I said to life, "I drink it up." And as I drank I saw life's eyes Were wet with tears.
