DISSONANCE, by FLORENCE COPLEY WHITE First Line: Light as the bird on a bough was my heart in the morning Last Line: Left me distressed I was selfish enough to be gay. Subject(s): Selfishness | ||||||||
Light as the bird on a bough was my heart in the morning, Filled with the rapture of day that was rose in the east, Throbbing to pour forth the melody surging within me, Eager to share with the highest and give to the least. Suddenly someone with harshness rebuked me rejoicing, Quick as a flash from my heart all the light went away, Left me in wonderment where I had seen all the sunshine, Left me distressed I was selfish enough to be gay. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A LEGEND OF THE NORTHLAND by PHOEBE CARY SATIRES OF CIRCUMSTANCE: 3.
