GOD INCARNATE, by RUTH M. WILLIAMS First Line: Fairest lord jesus, serene you lay Last Line: Some day we'll crown you our lord and king. Subject(s): Christmas; Jesus Christ; Nativity, The | ||||||||
Fairest Lord Jesus, serene You lay In swaddling clothes on a bed of hay. What a bed for You to lie upon, Who were one with God at creation's dawn! Did lovely Mary sense that she Above all women exalted would be? Was Joseph aware among other things That Your manger cradled the King of Kings? Did the watchful shepherds realize, When angelic hosts covered the skies And glorified God for gift so rare, That You were the answer to every prayer? Did the Innkeeper ever learn that he Had forfeited immortality? Would jealous Herod have planned Your death Had he known that You were the giver of breath? Did the Wise Man know that the gold he shared Was a "grain of mustard seed" compared With the gold You'd stored in the bowels of earth, Before ever woman travailed in birth? Did the thoughtless crowd that passed Your manger Understand the tragic danger Of rejecting You, God's only Son The Jewel of Heaven, the Worthy One? Fairest Lord Jesus, today You reign At God's right hand in that vast domain; Redeemed of all ages around You sing; Some day we'll crown You our Lord and King. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DIFFERENT VIEWS; A CHRISMAS DUET by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY AN UNMERRY CHRISTMAS by AMBROSE BIERCE CHRISTMAS IN CHINATOWN by AUGUST KLEINZAHLER CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS ISAIAH'S COAL by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
