VALOUR OF PEACE, by FRANK WILMOT Poet's Biography First Line: I held some little faith amongst those times Last Line: In the gross cradles of a scoundrel realm! Alternate Author Name(s): Maurice, Furnley Subject(s): Peace | ||||||||
I HELD some little faith amongst those times Of war and loosened brain, knew they would end And let the foeman call the foeman friend. And let the poets go home to their rhymes. War has its valours and its many crimes Of passionate destruction; oh, but lend Your hearts to these dark voices that contend Behind the banners and the belfry chimes! Will this peace never end! Oh, dreadful name! Valour's in Heaven and the doors are locked! Smear thick with shame the foe we overwhelm! Shame on his lovers, everlasting shame On unborn babies destined to be rocked In the gross cradles of a scoundrel realm! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOW MANY NIGHTS by GALWAY KINNELL THE MOTTO by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE TRUE BEATITUDE by RUPERT BROOKE MAKING PEACE by DENISE LEVERTOV TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 1 by YEHUDA AMICHAI TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 2 by YEHUDA AMICHAI |
