A boy upon a Shetland pony, (Sing, bonny bluebird, sing!) Is riding down a lane of maples To high adventuring. Within the meadow may be danger, But this lad doesn't care -- When summer winds are calling to him, A lad rides anywhere. Within the forest may be pirates (Who knows?) in secret caves; But no brave lad of seven's ever Afraid of daring knaves. This rider has a heart that's valiant; (Hush, bluebird, your refrain!) The courage that a nation's needing Is jogging down my lane! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE POET; SONNET by AMY LOWELL MY MOTHER LEFT ME by KAREN SWENSON GALAHAD IN THE CASTLE OF THE MAIDENS by SARA TEASDALE THE COLORED SOLDIERS by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR WRINKLES by WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR TOM DEADLIGHT by HERMAN MELVILLE |
