THE PURSUIT by GAMALIEL BRADFORD

First Line: I HAD VISITED HER OFTEN
Last Line: FOUND IT BITTER, AND FORGOT HER.
Subject(s): LOVE - LOSS OF;

I had visited her often,
Long had sought, with vain endeavor,
Her obdurate heart to soften;
But she answered, "never, never."

Then it softened and ran widely,
Like an ink-drop on a blotter.
I ceased labor, tasted idly,
Found it bitter, and forgot her.
