SURRENDER by JACK GREENBERG

First Line: LET ME HOLD YOU, DEAR, A MOMENT LONGER
Last Line: TOO SOON THE PAST WILL WRAP US IN ITS FOLDS.
Subject(s): LOVE;

Let me hold you, dear, a moment longer,
And let me see the smile I soon must lose;
I cannot say which urge in me is stronger,
Which pounding, mad desire to kill or choose;
This I know that time and life are brutal
And march on deaf to human will or woe,
That the call of lonely love is futile,
Its blossoms fall and perish as they grow.

Let's joy in full, even while it shatters,
Let me hold you tight, just a moment more,
You, dear heart, are really all that matters,
With you away I have no friendly shore.
So let us grasp all that the present holds,
Too soon the past will wrap us in its folds.
