HOLLYHOCKS by EDNA DEAN PROCTOR

First Line: O THE STATELY HOLLYHOCKS
Last Line: THEIR WORDS IN THE DUSK TO ME.
Subject(s): HOLLYHOCKS; NATURE;

O THE stately Hollyhocks
Flowering up the stalk —
Crimson, rose and creamy white
Blazoning the walk —
Soft with sighs, on summer eves
I have heard them talk!
But what they said in the balmy hush —
Not a leaf astir on the tree —
I shall never tell lest the stars should fall
And the sun drown in the sea! —
So sweet, so high, so wonderful
Their words in the dusk to me.
