BRICKLAYER LOVE, by CARL SANDBURG Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: I thought of killing myself because I am only a bricklayer Last Line: Boards go wrong, I think of you. Subject(s): Bricklayers; Love - Unrequited | |||
I THOUGHT of killing myself because I am only a bricklayer and you a woman who loves the man who runs a drug store. I don't care like I used to; I lay bricks straighter than I used to and I sing slower handling the trowel afternoons. When the sun is in my eyes and the ladders are shaky and the mortar boards go wrong, I think of you. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONNET by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON TUTTO E SCIOLTO by JAMES JOYCE APPULDURCOMBE PARK by AMY LOWELL TALE OF THE MAYOR'S SON by GLYN MAXWELL ELEGY FOR AN ENEMY by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET |
