NATHAHNI AND SOYAZHE, by
First Line: Slim soyazhe came down the hill
Last Line: Between sahuaros, ribbed and still.

Slim Soyazhe came down the hill
A half-a-hundred years ago,
Between sahuaros, ribbed and still.

The blue birds practised on a trill;
With Nahtahni waiting below,
Slim Soyazhe came down the hill.

A plump bisnaga curved a quill
To catch the warm sun's twinkled glow
Between sahuaros, ribbed and still.

The palo verde etched a grill
Of mobile shadows, in a row;
Slim Soyazhe came down the hill.

The turquoise birds had sung their fill
And as she neared, they circled low.
Between sahuaros, ribbed and still.

And Nahtahni with patient will
Watched silently while quiet, slow,
Slim Soyazhe came down the hill
Between sahuaros, ribbed and still.
