Alternate Author Name(s): Thomas, Mrs. Elizabeth Subject(s): Love - Age Differences | |||
DEAR Colonel, name the day, Let your love no longer stay with a fal la la. The battles you have won Have my tender heart undone with a fal la la. Oh! think no more of wars You'll get nothing there but scars with a fal la la. But fly into my arms As a shelter from all harms with a fal la la. Though you have got the gout, Yet your heart is very stout with a fal la la -- You can sit in elbow-chair, I can nurse you with great care with a fal la la. I can patch your old red clothes, I can darn your old yarn hose with a fal la la. Still listening with delight, While you brag of former fight with a fal la la. And when you chance to die, As in dust we all must lie with a fal la la -- It shall be my special care My loss quickly to repair with a fal la la. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GHOST IN THE MARTINI by ANTHONY HECHT THE NIGHT BEFORE FATHER'S DAY by DENISE DUHAMEL PREFERENCE by JAMES LANGSTON HUGHES I REMEMBER by FLORENCE MARGARET SMITH A SONG OF A YOUNG LADY TO HER ANCIENT LOVER by JOHN WILMOT ON THE MARRIAGE OF A BEAUTEOUS YOUNG GENTLEWOMAN WITH AN ANCIENT MAN by FRANCIS BEAUMONT WHAT CAN A YOUNG LASSIE DO by ROBERT BURNS LINES ON MY NEW CHILD SWEETHEART by THOMAS CAMPBELL TO CHLOE, WHO WISHED HERSELF YOUNG ENOUGH FOR ME by WILLIAM CARTWRIGHT A PRIZE RIDDLE ON HERSELF WHEN 24 by ELIZABETH FRANCES AMHERST A SONG FOR THE SINGLE TABLE ON NEW YEAR'S DAY by ELIZABETH FRANCES AMHERST |
