THE PASQUE FLOWER, by
First Line: Anemone of purple hue
Last Line: Sweet, modest wind-flower of the plain.
Subject(s): Easter; Flowers; Holidays; The Resurrection

Anemone of purple hue,
Emerging from the grasses brown,
Has come to make her spring debut
In furry mantled, satin gown.

She loiters not for leaf nor bower
A proper setting to prepare;
At Easter time our brave pasque flower
Arrives to grace the season rare.

She comes, the vanguard of the year,
Amid the hillside grasses sear,
With golden heart, in sun or rain
Sweet, modest wind-flower of the plain.
