CALIFORNIA RAIN, by MARGERY AILYN BISHOP First Line: My grief and I walked quietly Last Line: Was raining, raining on the hill. Subject(s): Rain | |||
My grief and I walked quietly A day ago, a year ago; And all the hills were sweet and wet For it was raining, raining slow. A thousand fragrances smoked up Of new-laid dust, of sage, and pine. My footsteps sagged into the loam For it was raining all the time. It cupped in leaves, and dripped from leaves And ran in ribbons on the ground. The conifers moved heavily And swayed into the rhythmic sound. Thunder shot the air and light Froze terribly an instant... still I smiled the while I wept, for it Was raining, raining on the hill. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DISTANT RAINFALL by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHAMBER MUSIC: 32 by JAMES JOYCE HEAVY SUMMER RAIN by JANE KENYON CROWD CORRALLING by MARGARET AVISON THE RAIN-POOL by KARLE WILSON BAKER ON THE GREAT ATLANTIC RAINWAY by KENNETH KOCH FOR THE INVESTITURE by CECIL DAY LEWIS |
