SLEEP BRINGS NO JOY TO ME, by EMILY JANE BRONTE Poet Analysis Poet's Biography Alternate Author Name(s): Bell, Ellis Subject(s): Sleep | ||||||||
Sleep brings no joy to me, āàRemembrance never dies, My soul is given to mystery, āàAnd lives in sighs. Sleep brings no rest to me; āàThe shadows of the dead, My wakening eyes may never see, āàSurround my bed. Sleep brings no hope to me, āàIn soundest sleep they come, And with their doleful imag'ry āàDeepen the gloom. Sleep brings no strength to me, āàNo power renewed to brave; I only sail a wilder sea, āàA darker wave. Sleep brings no friend to me āàTo soothe and aid to bear; They all gaze on how scornfully, āàAnd I despair. Sleep brings no wish to fret āàMy harassed heart beneath; My only wish is to forget āàIn endless sleep of death. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...YOU'S SWEET TO YO' MAMMY JES DE SAME by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON CHAMBER MUSIC: 3 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 22 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 34 by JAMES JOYCE GOING TO SLEEP by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN THE BLUE NAP by WILLIAM MATTHEWS A DAY DREAM by EMILY JANE BRONTE |
