LULLABY, by ANNIE WILSON CHALMERS First Line: Sleep, sleep, my darling! Last Line: Soon 'twill be day. | ||||||||
Sleep, sleep, my darling! Eyes of blue, close. Sweet be thy slumber, Calm thy repose. Now over the wide world Night gathers fast. Slumber, my darling, Day comes at last. Sleep, sleep, my darling! Golden head, rest. Bright be thy visions, Dreams ever blest. Zephyrs of evening Fan thy hot brow. Slumber, my darling, God watches now. Hush, hush, my loved one! Why dost thou weep? Angels watch o'er thee, Sleep, darling, sleep. Now sails the bright moon Through the dark sky. Slumber, my darling, Mother is nigh. Sleep, sleep, my dear one! Naught must thou fear. He who has made thee Still watches near. Life is before thee, Joy strew thy way. Slumber, my darling -- Soon 'twill be day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WEAVER'S APPRENTICE by AL-RUSAFI VERSES FROM THE 'ANNALIA DUBRENSIA' by WILLIAM BASSE ELEGY by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN THE WANDERER: 1.
