LOVE ABSENT, by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES Poet Analysis First Line: Where wert thou, love, when from twm barlum turned Last Line: Allowest time to part us with his hours. Alternate Author Name(s): Davies, W. H. Subject(s): Love - Unrequited | ||||||||
Where wert thou, love, when from Twm Barlum turned The moon's face full the way of Alteryn, And from his wood's dark cage the nightingale Drave out clear notes across the open sheen? I stood alone to see the ripples run From light to shade, and shade to light in play; Like fearsome children stealing guilty moves When Age is dozing -- when thou wert away. The banks of Alteryn are no less sweet, Nor Malpas brook more chary of his flower, And I unchanged as they; but thou, dear love, Allowest Time to part us with his hours. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONNET by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON TUTTO E SCIOLTO by JAMES JOYCE APPULDURCOMBE PARK by AMY LOWELL TALE OF THE MAYOR'S SON by GLYN MAXWELL ELEGY FOR AN ENEMY by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET ESSAY ON WHAT I THINK ABOUT MOST by ANNE CARSON A BIRD'S ANGER by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES |
