The electric lights begin
To jump as if they'd fuse,
Outside the house a giant dances,
Pounding in heavy shoes.

A witch astride her broom
Sweeps on to join the dance—
You hear her sweep as the bombs whizz,
You hear her broomstick prance.

The windows play a tune,
Rattling castanets.
Above the town a harpy glides,
Swoops and pirouettes.

The Dance of Death begins,
The Witch's Sabbath comes.
The violins already shriek,
And now begin the drums.
