PUDDLES, by RUTH ECKMAN First Line: Little puddles have a way Last Line: That have no stars to show? Subject(s): Flowers | ||||||||
Little puddles have a way Of fixing up at night . . . In apricot and apple-green, In rose and petalled-white. In lemon-yellow they've been seen, In bronze and golden-glow. And sometimes they are carnival And hems of scarlet show. Round about the set of sun You will see them flower . . . Glist'ning in the country lanes For a sunset hour. Little puddles have a way Of turning black and deep . . . Save the favored few that find A star or two to keep. Nights are long and nights are drear Go clock hands fast or slow . . . What do little puddles do That have no stars to show? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THEY SAW THE PROBLEM by MARK JARMAN SHAKE THE SUPERFLUX! by DAVID LEHMAN THE M??TIER OF BLOSSOMING by DENISE LEVERTOV TANKA DIARY (6) by HARRYETTE MULLEN VARIATIONS: 17 by CONRAD AIKEN FORCED BLOOM by STEPHEN ELLIOTT DUNN CAVALIER TUNES: GIVE A ROUSE THEN FOR THE CLINIC by ROBERT BROWNING |
