TASKS, by IRMA LOUISE EHRENSBERGER First Line: I thought I'd catch up with my tasks today Last Line: I caught up with my dreams instead! Subject(s): Labor & Laborers; Work; Workers | ||||||||
I thought I'd catch up with my tasks today, The little things that needed mending; A sweater, socks, and toys with broken parts; A picture needed framing. I'd planned to clean the attic, Throw away the old, make way for more; Old souvenirs that needed dusting. Oh, the musty smell of memories dying When I opened wide the door! My diary there, long since neglected, With such reproachful air, -- The day I met you, The night you kissed me By the stair. We promised not to make our life a task, But days of joy. I remember now, the dreams we dreamed, The gladness in your eyes When you beheld our boy. I felt so worried over work undone, Trudging up those stairs with weary dread, Thinking I'd catch up with my tasks today. Perhaps you noticed when you came home tonight, I caught up with my dreams instead! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AFTER WORKING SIXTY HOURS AGAIN FOR WHAT REASON by HICOK.
