HAUNTED, by ETHEL EVERETT First Line: Out of the heart of the woodland Last Line: Bright spirits of nature ever are haunting me. Subject(s): Ghosts; Supernatural | ||||||||
Out of the heart of the woodland, Or shrinking close to a tree, Bright spirits of nature ever are haunting me. You, you think it is fancy, Dreams all foolish and rare, Oh, but their bodies are formed of essence of earth and air. Lying still in the sunlight, Still, heart to the ground, Mind feeding on nature, color and form and sound, Drowsy flowers are nodding To insects' rhythmic hum, Stealing close to me, friendly, the nature spirits come. Full of the joy of the woodland, Genii and human blent, Strange mystic creation, gentle and innocent. Close, close to the earth heart The heart of me is laid, Striving for understanding of that which shall never fade. Come, come with your presence None but my eye can see. Bright spirits of nature ever are haunting me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE MOTHS: 1.
