A PLEA TO LIFE, by MARTHA STONEHILL FERNBERG First Line: Life - I am here at your bidding Last Line: For I have won the fight. Subject(s): Life | ||||||||
Life -- I am here at your bidding With the power to do -- Yet, you look at me forbidding Do I belittle you? Life, it is years since first we met Though time seems rushing by. I would not cause you a regret A tear or e'en a sigh. You are so filled with joys to spare -- Hear my imploring quest: That you with me will hence forbear And thus my soul refresh. Life, I see the shadows passing, Your voice responds to call -- Fondest hopes I am caressing, Wonderful after all. Now, life's imbued with spirit new Fuller days in sight Miracles now come to view For I have won the fight. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PRIVILEGE OF BEING by ROBERT HASS SEAWATER STIFFENS CLOTH by JANE HIRSHFIELD SAYING YES TO LIVING by DAVID IGNATOW THE WORLD IS SO DIFFICULT TO GIVE UP by DAVID IGNATOW BONDAGE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE BURIED LADY by PAUL VALERY OF DISTRESS BEING HUMILIATED BY THE CLASSICAL CHINESE POETS by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
