THE MEASURE, by HORTENSE KING FLEXNER First Line: Now frail the flower and strong the weed Last Line: Measures the long step of the sun. Subject(s): Earth; Flowers; Nature; Planets; World | ||||||||
Now frail the flower and strong the weed, The shaggy vine sprawls on the ledge, The spider's rope, the bearded seed Float on still air to strike the hedge. In space, magnetic pull and ray Have made earth stagger and turn back; But here the blue grape points the way A planet keeps its curving track. Not as we bind the stalk and sheaf The abstract tasks of sky are done, Yet at my door the shrivelled leaf Measures the long step of the sun. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BROKEN BALANCE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SUBJECTED EARTH by ROBINSON JEFFERS GEOMETAPHYSICS by MARGARET AVISON NIAGARA by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOPHISTICATION by CONRAD AIKEN I SEE CHILE IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR by AGHA SHAHID ALI WASHING OUR HANDS OF THE REST OF AMERICA by MARVIN BELL THE EARTH IS A LIVING THING by LUCILLE CLIFTON 800,000 VIBRATIONS TO THE SECOND by HORTENSE KING FLEXNER |
