First Line: You were so fair to look upon
Last Line: But now I walk alone.
Subject(s): Absence; Solitude; Separation; Isolation; Loneliness

You were so fair to look upon—
That last farewell "Good-night".
A gleam fell on your lovely face
From out the candle's light.
Before the dawn an angel came.
It waited not for day—
For in that marvelous dawn I saw
Two angels go away.

The days to come can never be
As fair as those now flown.
We two lived in the yesterdays;
But now I walk alone.
