SOUL AT PLAY, by LOUISE AYRES GARNETT First Line: I like to walk with stately thoughts Last Line: For wider journeyings. Subject(s): Soul | ||||||||
I like to walk with stately thoughts Along a bordered path, Watching the pageant of my mood In sunset's aftermath. I like to go with melody And braid a simple song, A song that's but a heart-width wide And but a dream-length long. I like to hurry with the rain Over an April hill, Feeling the drowsy dead arouse And quicken at our will. I like to lay me down at night And think upon these things, Before my spirit mounts a dream For wider journeyings. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CRUEL FALCON by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE WHOLE SOUL by PHILIP LEVINE I KNOW MY SOUL by CLAUDE MCKAY HONORING THE SAND; IN MEMORY OF JOSEPH CAMPBELL by ROBERT BLY THE CHINESE PEAKS; FOR DONALD HALL by ROBERT BLY THE LIFE OF TOWNS: TOWN OF THE EXHUMATION by ANNE CARSON BALLAD OF THE DOORSTONE by LOUISE AYRES GARNETT |
