BLIZZARD, by
First Line: Frozen brittle, barren boughs
Last Line: Shrink beneath the icy-fingered storm.
Subject(s): Snow

Frozen, brittle, barren boughs
Are etched against the lowering sky.
Twirling, whirling, down the storm
The endless flakes
Between the white drifts and the heavens
Sting the face as a swarm of bees
Darkening the clouded sun.
Wolf-like howls the wind through the creaking forest.
Lashing, the cedars beat him away from their bosom.
Higher pile the drifted manzanitas,
Where crouching bird and trembling rabbit
Shrink beneath the icy-fingered storm.
