BLIZZARD, by BERTHA LAVINA GATES First Line: Frozen brittle, barren boughs Last Line: Shrink beneath the icy-fingered storm. Subject(s): Snow | ||||||||
Frozen, brittle, barren boughs Are etched against the lowering sky. Twirling, whirling, down the storm The endless flakes Between the white drifts and the heavens Sting the face as a swarm of bees Darkening the clouded sun. Wolf-like howls the wind through the creaking forest. Lashing, the cedars beat him away from their bosom. Higher pile the drifted manzanitas, Where crouching bird and trembling rabbit Shrink beneath the icy-fingered storm. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BRIGHT SUN AFTER HEAVY SNOW by JANE KENYON SNOW FALLING THROUGH FOG by WILLIAM MATTHEWS THE SNOW FAIRY by CLAUDE MCKAY NOT ONLY ESKIMOS by LISEL MUELLER SAINT LUKE'S HOSPITAL by BERTHA LAVINA GATES |
