Subject(s): Hearts; Love - Loss Of; Solitude; Soul; Loneliness

THE grass, with drops like diamonds bright,
Is sparkling in the sun,
The roses red and lilies white
Have put their glories on,—

And all things show that fragrant time,
The season when we met;
Still sighs my heart for "auld lang syne,"
Nor can that hour forget.

Full well I know that thou art changed,
That now thou lov'st me not,
That time and absence have estranged,
And thou must be forgot;

And though, perchance, in Friendship's claim,
Thy hand my own may meet,
Thy love will never thrill my frame
As in past moments sweet.

Alas for me!—no hope smiles bright
Within my horizon's bound;
No star, sweet shining, cheers the night
That closes me around!

Sad and alone my lot must be,
The fault is all my own;
And while my heart breaks silently,
To none dare I make moan.
