YOUTH, by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY Poet's Biography First Line: Oh, youth! When all seems bright and fair Last Line: To wound us on the morrow! Subject(s): Aging; Children; Youth; Childhood | ||||||||
OH, Youth! when all seems bright and fair, Hope's golden visions glowing, No sorrow chills thy gentle air, No care its shade is throwing: When Pleasure springs on every side, To fill the hours with sweetness, We see no monitor beside, To warn us of their fleetness! Joy in thy youth, while yet thou may, For e'en while life is glowing, There is some sorrow on its way, Thy tears will soon be flowing; Life is not all of sunny hours, Each heart knows some great sorrow, Thorns lie concealed beneath the flowers, To wound us on the morrow! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE ABSENCE by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY AN HOUR WITH FANCY by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY ASPIRATIONS TO THE INFINITE; ADDRESSED TO A FRIEND by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY |
