RESPITE, by                     Poet's Biography
First Line: By cowardice and terror
Last Line: Withholding still the nail.
Alternate Author Name(s): Harlow, Leo P., Mrs.

By cowardice and terror
A little soul lay torn
Believing this her Calvary:
The pressure of one thorn.

God watched with patient pity
While she grew weak and pale
And deeper, deeper pressed the thorn --
Withholding still the nail.
