SONG OF THE SAW, by GEORGE SCOTT GLEASON First Line: Sag and lift Last Line: Of the saw-mill. Subject(s): Saws | ||||||||
Sag and lift The cedar butt, Roll the oak And butternut. Mark the edge With finest line. Strip the white, The yellow pine. Grip the helve, Sharpen the steel -- Bark of spruce And hemlock peel. Rip-saw, rip, Prying with groan. Lift saw, lift, Whetted with stone. This is the arm Forged with thunder, Piling, sawing, Sawing lumber. This is the iron Branding the will, This is the song Of the saw-mill. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OLD SAWMILL PARKER SETTLEMENT 1937 by RUTH GENEVIEVE WORK IODICE BIG BLONDE SWEDE by GEORGE SCOTT GLEASON A BOOK OF AIRS: SONG 2 by THOMAS CAMPION DO YOU FEAR THE WIND? by HAMLIN GARLAND A CHRISTMAS CAROL (2) by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI I AM FREEZING by JOHANNA AMBROSIUS BEAUTY MAKES US HAPPY by PHILIP AYRES EMBLEMS OF LOVE: 27.
