A SONNET, by GLADYS F. GOODFELLOW First Line: I sometimes wonder what my life would be Last Line: Whose heart has known one day of ecstasy? Subject(s): Sonnet (as Literary Form) | ||||||||
I sometimes wonder what my life would be If I had never loved you, what the cost Of loving you has been, will be to me When sight of you and sound of you is lost. For not again will there be quiet content, Knowing whatever comes, the best is gone; Always there will be memories that dent The peace of night before the break of dawn. Each day will be a husk of what could be If you were there -- a feast with only crumbs, Each dawn reveal a drear eternity, For without love tomorrow never comes. Would peace, contentment be a boon to me Whose heart has known one day of ecstasy? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAS THAT REALLY A SONNET? by ANSELM HOLLO RETICENT SONNET by ANNE CARSON SONNET: OF THREE GIRLS AND OF THEIR TALK by GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO WHAT THE SONNET IS by EUGENE JACOB LEE-HAMILTON ON A MAGAZINE SONNET by RUSSELL HILLARD LOINES THE HOUSE OF LIFE: THE SONNET (INTRODUCTION) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI VERSES FOR CHILDREN: MAPLE TREE by ZEDA K.
