THE SOUL OF MY LOVE, by IVY MAY GRANT First Line: If I could see your soul, sweet hauntress, as Last Line: Lying together in the empurpled violet's heart. Subject(s): Hearts; Love | ||||||||
IF I could see your soul, sweet hauntress, as a thing apart, Would it be like a star, the light of which beams through those amber eyes, Or would it be a flower-child plucked out fresh from Nature's heart, A rose, perhaps, white as the brow of sleep, and veined with blue, Or sacred lily rimmed with purity, Or sheeny-silvered butterfly, or rose-fleeced summer cloud? I sought all nature, filled with ardent sighs, To find thy soul; And was rewarded, Seeing two drops of crystal dew Lying together in the empurpled violet's heart. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD THE ARCHITECT AT THE EDGE OF THE SEA by KAREN SWENSON LEAVING THE HARBOR by LOUIS UNTERMEYER ON A PORTRAIT OF WORDSWORTH BY B.R.
