OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN, by ETTA MERRICK GRAVES First Line: The grand old man of the mountain Last Line: Through speeding time will reach! Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
The Grand Old Man of the Mountain In regal splendor stood, While snowflakes heralding winter Caressed the autumn wood. The profiled head of the ages A crystal grandeur bore, As the patriarch's carven features Their icy whiskers wore. The trees, snow-gleamed in the sunshine, Upholding autumn's hoard, Wore ermine vestments in homage; All bowed to serve their lord. Enobled king-of-all-ages, Whose silence rules our speech, Your royal grace in all seasons Through speeding time will reach! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
