You like your murders gory when they're safely in a story, But here's a little warning I will offer free of charge: It used to be the butler, but the readers like 'em subtler So they're running out of suspects and the criminal's still at large. Do you think you can recover when some author does discover That the reader is one character he has never thought to brand? For he'll pin the crime on you, and you won't know what to do When you awake and find yourself with a murder on your hand! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...KICKING THE LEAVES by DONALD HALL THE FARMER'S BOY: WINTER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: SUMMER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD BARELY POSSIBLE by INEZ GEORGE GRIDLEY THE OCTOROON by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON MOTTO TO THE SONGS OF INNOCENCE & OF EXPERIENCE by WILLIAM BLAKE |
