PRAISE BE TO NOAH, by HARVEY C. GRUMBINE First Line: Spermatozoa were precious in the time of noah Last Line: Praise be to noah who did his best for the spermatozoa! Subject(s): Bible | ||||||||
Spermatozoa were precious in the time of Noah. The fertile lover not at a loss for suitable ova. Female and male safe in the ark as any whale. The monkey and his mate abiding hand in hand. The bull and cow connubial as the boar with sow. Monogamy the rule securing progeny. Since one for one was strictly the law for conjugal fun. Even the birds enjoined from base promiscuous words. Only the fishes free to indulge their fanciful wishes. The flood for whales was good, as for all with fins for tails. The crocodile just thumbed his nose with gleeful smile. Perhaps the rats were stowaways with ants and bats. The bug and newt abode in a furry hide and foot. The louse and flea ranged far and wide promiscuously. The furtive germ consorted with just any worm. Did Noah see these vagrants with microscopy? What slip of the eye let in the pestilential fly? What enemies admitted maggots in his cheese? The worm of tape lodged in the entrails of the ape? The spirochaetae just fecundating without pity? The gonococcus breeding in swarms to torture, mock us? Praise be to Noah who did his best for the spermatozoa! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...O TO BE A DRAGON by MARIANNE MOORE BIBLICAL MEDITATIONS by YEHUDA AMICHAI KING DAVID DANCES by JOHN BERRYMAN THE DREAM SONGS: 234.
