First Line: In my old verses you could find
Last Line: Thus naïve!
Subject(s): Poetry & Poets

In my old verses you could find
Poetry that took
Artless airs, that used to wind
Like a babbling brook.

I released it from my spirit
As it pleased to turn;
It had but freshness to endear it,
And its unconcern.

Worry? Then I did not know it,
Perfection to achieve:
Why couldn't I have stayed a poet
Thus naïve!
