THE GOOD SHEPHERD, by J. HAROLD GWYNNE First Line: I know mine own, our shepherd says Last Line: They know for them I lived and died. Subject(s): Jesus Christ | ||||||||
I know mine own, our Shepherd says, I know and love them every one; I watch and keep them from all harm, Until their homeward journey's done. I know mine own: their doubts and fears, Their burdens and their load of care; I give them comfort, strength and grace, And for their rest my folds prepare. I know mine own: the lambs that stray, And wander in the ways of sin; I follow though they know it not; I seek them and I bring them in. I know mine own: their griefs and tears, Their losses that oft crush the heart; My grace sufficient for them is, My balm makes all their woes depart. I know mine own: their fear of Death, Their dread of Sin's most awful Night; I calm their fears and give them hope; I bring Immortal Life to light. I know mine own: their wish to serve By kindly deed and helpful word; My Spirit moves within their hearts In every loving impulse stirred. I know mine own: their feeble powers, Their talents small, their courage weak; But greater strength to them is given, When they My help and blessing seek. Mine own know Me: the old and young Who journey ever by My side, My love and care for them they know, They know for them I lived and died. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MEDITATION ON SAVIORS by ROBINSON JEFFERS COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK TO A WREN ON CALVARY by LARRY LEVIS THE TRANSFIGURATION by EDWIN MUIR SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
