BRIGHT INTERVALS, by JESSIE HAEFNER First Line: Dreary and forsaken / the weatherbeaten Last Line: The old house lived anew. Subject(s): Solitude; Loneliness | ||||||||
Dreary and forsaken, The weatherbeaten house crumbled slowly Into decay. A fence, rusty and worn, Weeds growing in rank profusion Where flowers had lately bloomed Told a story of loneliness. And yet -- Each sunrise lit the windowpanes And in that early glow, For a few bright moments, The old house lived anew. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES |
