BRIGHT INTERVALS, by
First Line: Dreary and forsaken / the weatherbeaten
Last Line: The old house lived anew.
Subject(s): Solitude; Loneliness

Dreary and forsaken,
The weatherbeaten house crumbled slowly
Into decay.
A fence, rusty and worn,
Weeds growing in rank profusion
Where flowers had lately bloomed
Told a story of loneliness.
And yet --
Each sunrise lit the windowpanes
And in that early glow,
For a few bright moments,
The old house lived anew.
