FANCIES, by CORINNE S. HALL First Line: I wish I were a mountain breeze Last Line: Than breeze, or bubble in the sea. | |||
I wish I were a mountain breeze -- I'd play among the aspen leaves; I'd toss the downy cottonwood, And lift the stately lily's hood. Or, if a bubble in the spray, I'd catch the sunshine in my play; I'd dance and sing and then, at last, I'd run to Ocean's mighty clasp. Or, if a sunbeam I could be, I'd cheer the hearts of men at sea; I'd kiss the lids of children fair, And coin gold in ladies' hair. Upon the garden flowers I'd shine, And lift all drooping hearts that pine. A sunbeam I would rather be, Than breeze, or bubble in the sea. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ON A LUTE FOUND IN A SARCOPHAGUS by EDMUND WILLIAM GOSSE THE LAST CHRYSANTHEMUM by THOMAS HARDY SHE CAME AND WENT by JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL THE FALL OF RICHMOND [APRIL, 1865] by HERMAN MELVILLE ARMY CORRESPONDENT'S LAST RIDE; FIVE FORKS, APRIL 1, 1865 by GEORGE ALFRED TOWNSEND |
