FANCIES, by
First Line: I wish I were a mountain breeze
Last Line: Than breeze, or bubble in the sea.

I wish I were a mountain breeze --
I'd play among the aspen leaves;
I'd toss the downy cottonwood,
And lift the stately lily's hood.

Or, if a bubble in the spray,
I'd catch the sunshine in my play;
I'd dance and sing and then, at last,
I'd run to Ocean's mighty clasp.

Or, if a sunbeam I could be,
I'd cheer the hearts of men at sea;
I'd kiss the lids of children fair,
And coin gold in ladies' hair.

Upon the garden flowers I'd shine,
And lift all drooping hearts that pine.
A sunbeam I would rather be,
Than breeze, or bubble in the sea.
