THE GOLDEN PLOVER, by JONAS HALLGRIMSSON First Line: Gay the little plover flew Last Line: Half an hour before. Subject(s): Plovers | ||||||||
GAY the little plover flew Swooping up the morning blue, Singing in the light: "Praise the bounteousness of God! See how green is every clod, See how heaven is bright! "On the heath I have a nest, Where my little babies rest, Waiting me at home; Them my mother-love supplies Tender worms and pretty flies, When once more I come." Home the little plover sped (Radiant shone the sun o'erhead, Sweet earth's flowery floor) Laden sought her nestlings small -- But the crows had crunched them all Half an hour before. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GOLDEN PLOVER by RICHARD BUTLER GLAENZER PLOVERS CRY IN THE by KENNETH REXROTH EVENING BY THE SEA: THE PLOVERS FLY by RICHARD LEON SPAIN CHIEKO PLAYING AMONG THE PLOVERS by TAKAMURA KOTARO A GREETING by JONAS HALLGRIMSSON |
