DOUBTING BLOOD, by MAURINE HALLIBURTON First Line: I say the source of doubt is in the blood Last Line: A true precipitant for candor lies. Alternate Author Name(s): Mcgee, Mrs. M.h. | |||
I say the source of doubt is in the blood -- The very seat and origin are there, Intrinsic to the pulse's ebb and flood: The netted channels of its course we share With grandsires and their dames, a long time dead But living in our cells. With food and air, That tissues may be built and thought be bred, Those cells in some mysterious form convey The precedent of doubt. Our flesh is fed By springs whose ruby waters murmur, "Stay!" When rumor tends to take us by surprise Or rootless faith our senses would betray. Deep in our veins, where arguments arise, A true precipitant for candor lies. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PICADOR by MAURINE HALLIBURTON THE MAD WOMAN'S SONG by KAREN SWENSON DISCORDANTS: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN THE CHIMNEY SWEEPER, FR.
