MY TOWN, by SIBYL CROLY HANCHETT First Line: I am homesick for a town I have not seen Last Line: Die homesick for a town I have not seen. Subject(s): Homesickness | ||||||||
I am homesick for a town I have not seen, Where pleasant hilltops sing against the sky A lilting line of patterned melody; Where trees new-sprung in luminous, startling green, Direct, and cleanly perpendicular, Fling from the soil their penetrating line; And clear, unheated light is sifted fine Through all the mild and gentle atmosphere. I know its pools of blue-eyed flowers; its grass Resilient in every springing blade; The homely roofs, the comfortable, clean Old cottages, where peaceful folk may pass Unhastened lives. I shall, I am afraid, Die homesick for a town I have not seen. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PLAINT OF THE DISGUSTED BRITON IN THE STATES by GEORGE SANTAYANA OUTSIDE FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA by JAMES WRIGHT HOME-THOUGHTS, FROM ABROAD by ROBERT BROWNING MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME by STEPHEN COLLINS FOSTER HOMESICK BLUES by JAMES LANGSTON HUGHES SEVEN TIMES SEVEN [- LONGING FOR HOME] by JEAN INGELOW SONNET: TO L.T.
