HOLDEN CHURCH AND CEMETERY (KENYON, MINNESOTA), by GERTRUDE HANSON First Line: Today my feet have walked on sacred sod Last Line: The heritage they left has timeless worth. Subject(s): Cemeteries; Churches; Pioneers; Graveyards; Cathedrals | ||||||||
Today my feet have walked on sacred sod Where pioneers of Viking blood are sleeping Around an altar which they raised to God, As Jacob did, a shrine now in the keeping Of their own children's children.... On this plot Of consecrated earth, the trees they planted Point heavenward; and from this holy spot Young hearts intone the praise their elders chanted.... Stout-hearted pioneers! Through every struggle That faced them on this soil; in every sorrow The strange years brought to them; through fogs of trouble Their arms were strengthened for each new tomorrow By faith in God.... On this bewildered earth The heritage they left has timeless worth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VIRGIN IN GLASS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE HOUR BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF: 3.
