WHITE FRINGED-ORCHIS, by CAROLINE HAZARD Poet's Biography First Line: Low swampy ground, with spagnum moss Last Line: The candles of the lord. Subject(s): Earth; Love; Swamps; World; Bogs; Fens; Marshes | ||||||||
Low swampy ground, with spagnum moss, Witch grass, and creeping pine; A step across a tiny foss, (The world is lost, it is but dross,) Here, here is the Divine! Cranberry vines have balls of green -- The sphere, the all in all -- Blueberries show metallic sheen, (The silence spreads an altar screen,) Upon my knees I fall. Snow-white, mid feathers of a fern -- Scant shelter they afford -- Upright and pure, they wait their turn, (O light, oh Love, to beam and burn,) The candles of the Lord. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE HANDSOME SWAMP by THOMAS LUX BOGLAND; FOR T.P.
