BLESS THEE, by MARY ELIZABETH HEWITT Poet's Biography First Line: I may not break the holy spell Last Line: "my heart still whispers, ""bless thee!" Alternate Author Name(s): Moore, Mary Elizabeth | |||
I MAY not break the holy spell Thy beauty wove around me, Till time shall loose the silver cord That long to earth hath bound me. I see thee smile on loftier ones, And mark the proud caress thee; Yet when my lips would ope to curse, They never fail to bless thee. One memory round me everywhere, One task in silence set me -- The ever, ever thinking on, And striving to forget thee. And though the ever-goading thought To madness thus oppress me, I may not curse -- I cannot hate -- My heart still whispers, "Bless thee!" | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...GREEN PLACES IN THE CITY by MARY ELIZABETH HEWITT LAMENT OF JOSEPHINE by MARY ELIZABETH HEWITT MIDNIGHT ON MARATHON (A GREEK SUPERSTITION) by MARY ELIZABETH HEWITT THE LAST CHANT OF CORINNE by MARY ELIZABETH HEWITT THE OCEAN-TIDE TO THE RIVULET by MARY ELIZABETH HEWITT THE PRAYER OF A THIRSTING HEART by MARY ELIZABETH HEWITT THE SONG OF HIAWATHA: THE FOUR WINDS by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW WAR AND WASHINGTON by JONATHAN MITCHELL SEWALL ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 98 by PHILIP SIDNEY ROUTE MARCH by CHARLES HAMILTON SORLEY |
