THE WAY TO PEACE, by ALICE HIRSH First Line: Above all lands bright angel-wings are spread Last Line: And angel-wings of peace enfold us all. Subject(s): Peace | ||||||||
Above all lands bright angel-wings are spread; The wings of messengers of God, who wait Till human hearts are free from greed and hate. Oh, cease the talk of war! Let us instead Speak words of faith and brotherhood, and tread In pleasant paths which end but through the gate Of Heaven. They shall be blessed who dedicate Their lives to following where Christ has led. The way to Peace is simple. It is just To open wide our hands; then swords must fall Upon the ground, unheeded in the dust Which shall enshroud them. Sweetly then the call From man to man shall ring in common trust, And angel-wings of Peace enfold us all. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOW MANY NIGHTS by GALWAY KINNELL THE MOTTO by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE TRUE BEATITUDE by RUPERT BROOKE MAKING PEACE by DENISE LEVERTOV TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 1 by YEHUDA AMICHAI TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 2 by YEHUDA AMICHAI |
