ALONE, by IYDA REBECCA HIRSH First Line: A man from youth to age has grown Last Line: Have made a prisoner of his heart. Subject(s): Solitude; Loneliness | ||||||||
A man from youth to age has grown, No friend has he, but walks alone. He never learned to sing or smile But frowned and grumbled all the while. A man aloof from love and hate, Whose heart with gold alone was sate, Who longed for wealth and longed for power, But human kindness claimed no hour. That man who took but never gave Now stands alone, both sad and grave. His tapestry and treasured art Have made a prisoner of his heart. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES I WALK WITH BEAUTY by IYDA REBECCA HIRSH |
