AUGUST, by ERNA E. HOEFS First Line: The month that rests upon the earth Last Line: The promise made by spring. Subject(s): August | ||||||||
The month that rests upon the earth As a brightly burnished link Between the summer and the fall; When the year has paused to think And dream about sweet labors past, Of achievement and of gain -- Its gift to man from field and vine, The abundant fruit and grain. The month that makes a golden song Which grateful hearts may sing, For August brings fulfillment of The promise made by spring. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MIDSUMMER LETTER by DONALD HALL LATE AUGUST by PHYLLIS MCGINLEY THE LAST DAY OF AUGUST by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE AUGUST MOONRISE by SARA TEASDALE MIDSUMMER NIGHT by SARA TEASDALE THE FRUITS OF THE SEASON by JAMES WRIGHT THE SHEPHEARDES CALENDER: AUGUST by EDMUND SPENSER JOY (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON SUGGESTED BY THE COVER OF A VOLUME OF KEATS'S POEMS by AMY LOWELL THE MARYLAND BATTALION [AUGUST 27, 1776] by JOHN WILLIAMSON PALMER |
