GARDEN NOCTURNE, by JUAN HOLGUIN First Line: What was it flashed? Some star? Last Line: Hesperidian bliss. | |||
What was it flashed? Some star? A meteor in its flight? Far brighter your eyes are When they smile in the night: Far brighter your eyes are. What was it sighed? The air With fragrancy is filled; Sweeter than roses dare Be, your breath is myrrh-distilled: Sweeter than roses dare Yellow moonbeams above? They could not be golden; Your hair has gold I love, Cibola's gold of olden: Your hair has gold I love. Nor was it song of bird, Gay-plumaged, gay-throated, Through scented mist I heard: It was your voice, as it floated Through scented mist, I heard. And if I come alone, Amazed Aladdin I By magic spirits blown, (And your Self did not fly -- By magic spirits blown). Garden nocturne I find Is this -- (known to ancient Jove) Hesperidian bliss As in Olympus' grove: Hesperidian bliss. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WE CAN'T WRITE OURSELVES INTO ETERNAL LIFE by DAVID IGNATOW TO RIDGELY TORRENCE - PLAYWRIGHT by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE HILLS WERE MADE FOR FREEDOM by WILLIAM GOLDSMITH BROWN COMRADE JESUS by SARAH NORCLIFFE CLEGHORN THE COUNTRY FAITH by NORMAN ROWLAND GALE THE HIGHER GOOD by THEODORE PARKER |
